Legendary Songwriter Hank Cochran To Be Inducted Into
The Mississippi Musicians Hall Of Fame August 9

Nashville, TN (July 11, 2003) - - Legendary songwriter and Mississippi native, Hank Cochran, will be inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall Of Fame on Saturday, August 9. That evening Hank will give a rare performance with fellow songwriter and longtime friend Red Lane accompanying him on guitar. The induction is the highlight of a three-day event that includes a seminar on the music industry and a talent scholarship competition.

Born in Isola, MS on August 2, 1935, Cochran is honored to become a member of the MMHOF. "I left Mississippi when I was just a kid, and I’ve rarely gone back," he says. "But it’s a large part of why I am the man that I’ve become." What Cochran has become is one of the legends of country music, a songwriter without par, an entertainer of great charm and a true national treasure.

From his early hits as part of The Cochran Brothers duo with Eddy (no relation) Cochran in the 1950s, through his five decades of hits as a songwriter and performer, Cochran has become a modern-day renaissance man. Inducted into the Country Music Association’s Walkway of Stars in 1967 and the Nashville Songwriters’ Association International Hall Of Fame in 1974, Cochran is one of the most beloved writers ever to walk the streets of Nashville’s famed Music Row.

He remains at the top of his game, with recent cuts by Brad Paisley ("Is It Raining At Your House") and Reba McEntire ("If I Had Any Sense At All") confirming his prowess. He was recently honored to have three of his songs make CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music list: #7 "I Fall To Pieces," #24 "The Chair" and #39 "Make The World Go Away." "I Fall To Pieces" and "Make The World Go Away" have each achieved three B.M.I. Millionaire Awards, and additionally Cochran is the recipient of 39 B.M.I. Performance Awards.

Hank Cochran has come a long way since his childhood in Mississippi. Now he is happy to be returning to where it all began to accept his state’s highest music honor.

Songwriting Legend, Hank Cochran, Honored To Have

Three Songs In The 100 Greatest Songs Of Country Music

Nashville, TN (June 6, 2003) - - Hank Cochran spent a very special and enjoyable evening with his friends Curly Putnam, Patsy Bruce and Bud Lee, as these celebrated songwriters attended a once-in-a-lifetime concert for CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs Of Country Music. Hank was delighted to find three of his songs making the coveted Top 100 list. "I Fall To Pieces" lands at the #7 spot and Hank was thrilled by LeAnn Rimes’ performance of the Patsy Cline classic. Rimes will be featured on the network special, which airs Sunday, June 8 at 4:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT during which the Top 12 songs will be performed by some of country’s biggest stars.

Cochran’s "The Chair," takes the #24 spot and coming in at #39 is the classic, "Make The World Go Away." Of these honors, Hank says, "This is incredible. It’s amazing to think that doing something I love so much could bring me such recognition. I really love what I do and to have other people love it gives me a feeling that’s hard to explain. The Lord has blessed me in so many ways."

Cochran has been honored to have some of the greatest singers of all time perform his songs over the past five decades. Here’s hoping Hank enjoys many more in the decades to come.

Hank Cochran Honored:

Three Of His Songs Included

In CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music

Nashville, TN (May 27, 2003) - - NSAI Hall of Famer Hank Cochran is "thrilled" to have written three of the songs included in CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs Of Country Music list. The proud composer of "The Chair"(with Dean Dillon), "Make The World Go Away," and "I Fall To Pieces"(with the late Harlan Howard) says, "This is a real honor. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world."

"Make The World Go Away" and "I Fall To Pieces" are standards, songs that have withstood over three million airplays each - and given pleasure to generations of country fans. "The Chair" is a new classic that was a huge hit for George Strait in 1985. With over two million spins to its credit, "The Chair" is performed in every Strait show because "the audience response is so great," says George.

"It’s ironic," says Cochran, "that these are the songs chosen. These are probably three of my favorite songs that I’ve ever written. ‘The Chair,’ because it’s so different and Dean Dillon and I just knew it was a great song. We had a good time writing it too, down on my boat in the Florida Keys. ‘Make The World Go Away,’ because that was a song that I think the Lord just took over and wrote it. The inspiration hit while I was in a movie theater. It was crazy. I left in the middle of the show to write that song. I’ve got the only writer credit on that one, but I wasn’t the only one there, you know. ‘I Fall To Pieces’ I love because Harlan and I had such a great time writing it and such a hard time getting it cut. It’s nice when you nail one like that. Songwriting is a funny business and I guess a lot of it is just pure, dumb luck."

Hank might be one of the luckiest guys around, as CMT will air an exclusive six-hour television special June 8 at 4 p.m. ET/PT. During the course of the show, a countdown will feature the 100 songs on the distinguished list. Country’s hottest stars will perform the Top 12 songs in a pre-recorded concert that will highlight the television program. Cochran is hopeful that one of his songs will be included in the performance segment. "It’d be neat," Hank says. "I’d really love to hear that one of my songs made the Top 12."

BILLBOARD TOUTS HANK COCHRAN

AS RENAISSANCE MAN

Nashville, TN (September 26, 2002) - - Legendary singer/songwriter Hank Cochran is back in the spotlight this week, with a feature in the current issue of Billboard Magazine. Written by staffer Phyllis Stark, the interview offers an insightful glimpse into the world of the prolific Cochran. The ever in-demand Hank has been busy of late:

President Bush requested a copy of the Cochran co-write "When Bush Comes To Shove" recently released to Texas radio by artist Randy Boudreaux on The Texas Record Company label.

The third single, "He Little Thinged Her," from Hank’s LIVIN’ FOR A SONG CD, debuted at #15 on the European Top 30 Independent Tracks Chart and has rocketed to the #6 spot in this, its second week.

A video message has been recorded and sent via e-mail to International DJs in support of "He Little Thinged Her"

Cochran recently taped an interview for Britain’s South Bank Show which is filming a documentary on Willie Nelson and scheduled for airing on the ITT Network in January 2003.

Hank is featured in the Special Music Issue (September 26) of The Nashville Scene.

He has just completed his Gospel CD project, SOMETHING ABOUT JESUS, which features the vocals of long-time pal Willie Nelson on the title cut.

Lee Ann Womack, Tanya Tucker, Ray Price, Daryle Singletary, Willie Nelson and Anne Murray have all recently recorded Cochran compositions.

Cochran, now 67, has spent the last five decades at the top of the songwriting and recording world. This recent renaissance was inspired, he says, by a friend’s advice to "get back to work" a few years ago. Luckily for all of us, Hank is happy and motivated to continue on the road he has walked for so long. Hopefully, we’ll have more of Hank Cochran’s music to enjoy for years to come.

SONGWRITING LEGEND HANK COCHRAN -- KEEPING THE HITS ROLLING IN

song after song after song --

Nashville, TN (August 6, 2002) -- After more than four decades of songwriting fame (and over 3 million spins each of the classics "Make The World Go Away" and "I Fall To Pieces"), most writers would be laying down their pens. Not so for the man known to many as "The Legend." Hank Cochran is busier than ever and is seeing an enormous surge of interest in his songs, both new and "classic" compositions.

While songwriting might be Hank’s lifelong occupation, it is not his only love. He is nearing completion of his Gospel project, SOMETHING ABOUT JESUS and is anticipating a September release. Hank wrote or co-wrote many of the songs on the project and takes production credits with Jim Vest. As a recording artist, he is celebrating his most recent Top Ten European hit, "Something Unseen," from his latest CD LIVIN’ FOR A SONG.

Known as one of the best "pitchmen" in the business, Hank has been nailing down some major cuts by major artists. Hot country artist Lee Ann Womack has recorded "He’ll Be Back" for her SOMETHING WORTH LEAVING BEHIND CD due out August 20 and the irrepressible Tanya Tucker has cut "What A Love" for her soon to be released Capital Records CD. An upcoming project on the 9-11 tragedy will include three new Cochran compositions and the ever-popular Ray Price will release "I’m Not Leaving" on his new Audium recording.

Cochran classics will be hitting the airways again as Hank brings home four cuts on the upcoming Patsy Cline Tribute on MCA Records. Great vocalists of today, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones, Rebecca Lynn Howard and Lee Ann Womack reprise "I Fall To Pieces," "Why Can’t He Be You," "Stronger Than Me" and "She’s Got You," respectively. Willie Nelson has recorded six of Hank’s songs for future release, Canadian songbird Anne Murray has cut "Make The World Go Away" and "I Fall To Pieces" for a TIME/LIFE project and country crooner Daryle Singletary has recorded "A-11."

Always a sought-after interview, Hank is featured in Country Weekly (Aug. 6), North Country Music (UK/August), Sonic (Sweden’s largest country music publication/Sept.), American Country (Sept.) and Capital News (Australia/Sept.) BBC TV will interview Hank for "Lost Highway – The Story of Country Music," which is set to air in 2003. Cochran joins the likes of Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and other country greats filmed for the project, which will be broadcast worldwide.

After 43 years and so many songs, it’s no wonder that Cochran is called "The Legend." Humble by nature, Hank dismisses the notion of his celebrity status by saying, "I’m just doing what the Lord put me here to do. I’m just glad that folks still seem to like it." And the hits keep rolling in – song after song after song.

EUROPEAN RADIO REACTION PUSHES UP RELEASE DATE FOR UPCOMING HANK COCHRAN CD -- LIVIN' FOR A SONG

Nashville, TN (February 25, 2002) ---European radio's instant embrace of his new single, "LIVIN' FOR A SONG" has Hank Cochran hustling to meet a targeted April 15 CD-issue date. Significant airplay has pushed the record to the #21 slot on the E.M.S. European Top 40 Most Popular Independent Tracks Chart in its second week of release. Early reports are in: Roskilde Radio (Denmark) says it's "Good to hear old Hank again - he's a legend." Dune FM Radio (UK) calls the record "classic." JRRI Radio (Holland) says "This Hank still shines bright."

Co-produced along with legendary steel player Jim Vest, the CD features the musicianship of some close friends (Rock Killough, Clinton Gregory and Red Lane, to name a few) and the tender vocals for which Cochran is so well known. LIVIN' FOR A SONG, the CD, is full of the type of songs that have made Cochran the successful writer/performer that he has become. "Way To Mexico" is an uptempo romp that leaves the listener wanting more, while "You Wouldn't Know Love" is as emotional a ballad as the Cochran classic "She's Got You."

As a performer or songwriter, for over four decades the elusive "Hankdom" has been a presence on the Country, Pop, R & B and Americana charts. Success is something that Hank appreciates more than words can say. "It's always nice to have your work accepted and honored. This is the work that I think the Lord meant for me to do. I'm just glad that other people think so, too," Hank said.

There have been some "big moments" in Cochran's long career. The inclusion of an unbelievable 22 songs on the Ray Price boxed set, seven songs on the Patsy Cline boxed set and three songs on George Strait's boxed set are achievements to which no other songwriter can lay claim and for which Cochran is extremely grateful.

Hank is also grateful, since his daughter Booth's return from college. She is close at his side managing his home office, which allows him to focus on the writing, recording and producing that he loves. The CD, LIVIN' FOR A SONG, looks to be the next benchmark for the legend.
