At one point Hank had five songs in the Top 10 at the same time.
In a town best-known for co-writing, many of Hank's biggest hits--"Make the World Go Away," "Little Bitty Tear," "Don't Touch Me," and "She's Got You"--were ones he wrote by himself.
Hank wrote "Don't Touch Me," a 1966 hit for Jeannie Seely, in her dressing room at a show in Rochester, New York. The song has also been recorded by R&B legend Etta James.
Hank appears in Willie Nelson's 1980 film Honeysuckle Rose.
Ray Price was the first country singer to record "Make the World Go Away, but Eddy Arnold's version was the biggest seller. Pop star Timi Yuro ("Hurt") also hit the pop charts with it in 1963.
Hank has often had as many as four versions of the same song out by both pop and country artists simultaneously.
Academy Award winner Jack Palance (City Slickers) recorded "A Little Bitty Tear" in 1970.
Hank wrote "The Chair," for George Strait and "Miami, My Amy," for Keith Whitley (both with Dean Dillon) on the same day.
Hank has been honored with 39 BMI Performance Awards in both the Pop and Country categories.
